It was a trip with business mixed with pleasure, hanging out with friends. Since it was the off-season, we were definitely approached many times by locals who were doing their best to scrape by financially.
One night we went to a bar in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye and there were 4 drug dealers and 5 prostitutes and only about 10 other people there AND it was the only place that had any live music that night.
The caye was dead. I would totally go back to the bar. But, this is more a warning for those who want to go during the off-season that you may feel more at ease during the in-season, Nov-April. It didn't bother me much, but just relaying my experiences.
Caye Caulker - That place was much more relaxed in my opinion than Ambergris. I would visit both personally and the water taxi can allow you to do that even for a day trip either direction. It was an accident as far as we could tell that just went through the floor. I imagine this is extremely, extremely rare. Once again, it was off-season and sometimes things get weird. I thought it was an interesting and fun place for sure. Next time I'll get out on the dance floor.
