Valparai Tourist Places
The Anamalai Tiger Reserve (Indira Gandhi Sanctuary)
The Anamalai Tiger Reserve which is also known as the Indira Gandhi Sanctuary is in the Western Ghats south of the Palghat Gap. This tiger reserve shares its boundary with Kerala and you may have to pass checkpoints along the way while moving from one place to another.
While the sanctuary is famous for tigers, leopards, deers, sambar, barking deer, wild boar, macaque, langur, and many other species. The main attraction here is the Nilgiri Tahr.
Also, you can sport the Malabar Pied, Grey Malabar hornbill, and the great hornbill. This terrain is better known as Anaimalais which literally means the Mountain of Elephants. This Sanctuary is vast with a core area of around 958 sq km. While the base is in Valparai only one can explore the surrounding countryside at your leisure in your own car or by hiring one from the rental agencies which are available in the town.
Only around 24 km away from her is located the Sholayar Dam, The dam is one of the most beautiful places to visit as it is set amidst several tea and coffee estates. The dam is serene and alluring, the surrounding is great for bird watching, picnic, and a great place to hang out with your loved ones.
The Sholayar ranges are one of the most beautiful ranges in Southern India. The range is a majestic one as it offers a combination of mountains, waterfalls. Beaches, backwaters. All most anything can be found in the massive Sholayar range.
Another famous dam here is the Aliyar dam which is around 38 km away from Valparai. Aliyar dam is famous for its beautiful park, gardens, aquarium, and a large area to play for children. People from around the area come here with there families to enjoy.
Also only a few meters ahead there are Monkey falls located. The falls are extremely beautiful. With that, the peaceful Temple of Consciousness set in sylvan surroundings adds the charm to already beautiful place.
Remember due to Athirapally waterfalls only we discovered the beautiful Valparai. Athirapally waterfalls are one of the biggest, beautiful, and exotic waterfalls of Kerala. As it is in the borders of Tamil Nadu so it remains one of the highest visited places.
The beautiful Athirapally waterfalls are famous for trekking, jungle safari, and exotic stay. The dense forest gives ample opportunity to go find adventure in the jungles. The jungle safari near Athirapally is also very enticing.
Athirapally waterfalls are around 80 ft high and 330 ft wide. The marvelous falls are in the Thrissur district of Kerala. These falls are so magical that they are even called the Niagara Falls of India.
Complementing the Athirapally waterfalls is the Vazhachal waterfalls only around 5 km from Athirapally. These are also a massive 300 ft waterfall. A large pool after the fall makes it a tourist favorite where people love to swim.

You can find many exotic species here in the ranges. Further more, there are Athirapally waterfalls Which are like a hub for adventure activities. Go for trekking, jungle safari, camping near the falls.
Festivals in Valparai
Valparai also holds a special three day summer festival which is organized in the months of May. The festival here is organized to boost tourism. There are a lot of events which are conducted here at the festival. From football and cricket matches to the food fest this festival is very popular around the area.
With that dance, both folk dance and tribal dance are organized here at the festival. People from around the area love to show their culture during the festival. You will love this to enjoy this summer festival and also the scenic location.

Considering it is not such a big hill station still Valparai has some decent offering if you wish to stay here. In this small place itself, there are many hotels in this beautiful place. Best time to vist Valparai
The best time to visit Valparai is from August to March. At this time the weather is pleasant and all the adventure activities can be taken at this time of the year.
While in summers you will surely love the festival but it also receives a good amount of heat. Waterfalls too are not that magnificent at this time of the year. Trekking and other adventure activities seem a little tough to take on.
While in monsoon the valleys look extremely enchanting. But do keep in mind that the area receives a good amount of rainfall so hence all the adventure options are now wiped. While the valley at this time is enchanting and beautiful. You can see fog early in the morning and while driving which adds charm to this beautiful place.
So the best time is during post monsoon and winters when the temperature is low, waterfalls look magnificent and you can take any adventure you like.
How to Reach Valparai
Reaching by air
The nearest biggest airport from here is the Cochin airport. Cochin airport is one of the biggest airports and on a daily basis, there are approximately 165 flights that operate at Cochin International Airport. Cochin is only around 148 km away from here. You can easily get a taxi from the airport for this beautiful hill station.
Reaching by Train
The nearest railway station from the hill station is the Pollachi Railway station. The Pollachi railway station is around 64 km away from here. While the biggest one is the Coimbatore railway station which is at a distance of 102 KM from Valparai. You can easily get a taxi from any of these railway stations to reach Valparai.
Valparai is well connected via road and there are no. of State Govt. Buses are available from Coimbatore, Pollachi, Palani, Challakudi and Athirapalli for this beautiful hill station. The major cities like Pollachi are 64 km from here and Coimbatore is only around 102 km from here. Chennai though is around 600 km far from here. While if you are coming on your own take the Chalakudy – Anamala Rd to reach Valparai.
