Places to visit around Muzzhapilangad  Beach

Muzzhapilangad  Bagavathi temple

Visit the local temple of Sree Kurumba Bagavathi temple. While the temple is very ancient and there is no real creator in history but there is some evidence that the new structure( the current one)  is 3.5 centuries old.

There is a rare and peculiar type of paintings. There are a lot of sculptures here and this temple is a highly sacred and revered temple. The main deity of the temple is Sree Badhrakali who emerged from the third eye of Lord Shiva.

  Thalassery is a town which is just 12 km from  Muzhappilangad Beach.  Thalaserry was previously known as tellicherry. The town is one of the most beautiful towns around the Malabar coast.

You will see one of the most beautiful beaches, places, and people here. Thalaseery is a city of three C’s because of cricket, cake and circus. You can see just with the name how much excitement this town has.


Kannur is another city which is just 14 km from Muzhappilangad Beach. The coastal city is one of the ancient trading port of India. The city is famous for its rich cultural and historical heritage. You can see a very heavy European influence int eh city.

Places like St. Angelo fort, Payyambalam beach are some places which you must visit when in Kannur.  With that, there are a lot of temples in the city which you must not miss when you visit Kannur.

Best time to Visit Muzhappilangad Beach

Late October to April is the best time to visit Muzhappilangad Beach.  While you can visit the beach at any time of the year but the beach looks absolutely fantastic during these months. Breezy weather, ambient temperature, nice weather showcase the real charm of this beach.

In summers you can visit this beach but keep in mind of temperature rises to good 30s and humidity is very high at this time. This makes travelling a bit difficult and tiresome. While in monsoon as you know Kerala receives very high rainfall and showers.

Muzhappilangad Beach

While other parts of Kerala such as backwaters and valleys looks stunning in monsoon but not beaches. Very high current, cyclones some time, and heavy showers make monsoon a bad time to visit Muzhappilangad Beach in Monsoon.

How to Reach Muzhappilangad Beach

By Air

 The nearest airport from  Muzhappilangad Beach is Karipua International Airport. This International airport is very well connected to major Indian cities and international destinations as well.   The Karipua International airport is around 100 km from here. You can easily find buses and taxis from the airport to reach the beach.

By Train

 Kannur is the nearest big city from the Muzhappilangad Beach. The nearest railway station is also in Kannur only. The distance between Kannur railway station and the beach is 15 km. The railway station is well connected with major cities. From the Kannur, tourists can easily find a taxi and bus to reach the beach.

By Road

Muzhappilangad Beach is very well connected via road. The nearest 2 big cities are Kannur and Thalassery. Thalassery is 12 km via road and Kannur is around 14 km. You can find buses from many parts of India running for both of these cities in Kerala. You can then find the bus and taxis from these cities to reach the beach.

While if you are coming on your own then take NH 66 from Thiruvanthapuram to reach the beach. IT is a 465 km long journey and takes around 10 hours 30 minutes to complete.  While Kozhikode is very near only around 80 km from here. IT takes only 2 hours 30 minutes from Kozhikode to reach the beach via NH 66.

  • Entry fee is 40 for Cars
  • Entry fee is 20 for bikes
  • You can take even Tuk Tuk to ride along
  • There is some undulation in the sand which acts as natural speed breakers so don’t drive harsh here or you will end up hurting yourself
  • Ride at the time of Low tide
