We booked an airbnb in Boca Chica cause we wanted to have some relaxed days on a Caribic beach and some nightlife. We were really disappointed from Boca Chica.
First the beach is dirty and destroyed by a lot of construction. Only a tiny strip of the beach is left. The prices directly on the beach are totally overpriced its hard to eat there for less than eur 15 main course only , you spend normally much more. Everything is overprized and the quality of the food is awfull. The so-called nightlife consists of bars were old men are looking for prostitutes.
There is no traveller scene and its an absolutely no-go for couples and families. Barely any tourist under 40 years is around. Avoid this beach and check the other beach in DR. Would not recommend hotels in this area for families with children.
Must be very careful when crossing streets. Serene water. Clean beach. Breakers were out on the reef keeping the area flat and good for floating or snorkeling. My boyfriend and I spent a few days happily on this beach but I can see why it's not everyone's cup of tea. If you're more picky and have money to blow, go and book one of the resorts with a private area. We were happy to settle with the beach front restaurant sun beds paying our way in drinks and snacks make sure you don't pay just to sit!
Beach vendors were numerous but they weren't persistent if we firmly said no. The water was good for quick dips to cool off but wasn't the cleanest.. There are probably nicer more secluded beaches in DR but this was convenient and easy for a short beach break.
